PVS78E-021DRR0BN-0016 is not replaced safely by matching only the PROFIBUS interface; EncoderWorks treats it as a custom compatible singleturn encoder solution where 16-bit angle scaling, DR radial terminal wiring, Ø12 mm clamping-flange fit, node address, and bus termination must be confirmed together. The PVS78E-021DRR0BN-0016 is an explosion-proof PROFIBUS DP singleturn absolute rotary encoder configuration with binary position data, 16-bit singleturn resolution, 10–30 VDC supply, aluminum housing execution, Ø12 mm x 25 mm solid shaft, clamping flange, DR terminal compartment, radial exit, and IP66 flameproof construction. The first failure boundary is PROFIBUS parameter accuracy. The node address must be unique on the segment, and the termination resistor must match the encoder’s actual bus position. If the PLC project is still configured for 12-bit or 13-bit scaling, communication may remain normal while the reported angle becomes incorrect.

This replacement fails when PROFIBUS DP communication is present, but the PLC reads the wrong singleturn angle because node address, bus termination, binary scaling, preset value, GSD setup, or 16-bit parameterization does not match the original encoder.
