A custom compatible replacement for ESM58N-F2APNR0BN-1416 can be supplied by EncoderWorks with the main check placed on PROFINET device setup, 16/14-bit position mapping, and Ø12 mm recessed hollow-shaft fit. This model should not be treated like an EtherNet/IP version. The Ethernet hardware may look similar, but device name, GSDML configuration, IRT/RT timing, and controller parameterization create a different replacement boundary.

The ESM58N-F2APNR0BN-1416 is a PROFINET multiturn absolute encoder configuration with binary code, 16-bit singleturn resolution, 14-bit multiturn range, 10–30 VDC supply, aluminum housing execution, Ø12 mm x 30 mm recessed hollow shaft, radial M12 Ethernet and power connection, and integrated 2-port switch.

The first failure boundary is PROFINET configuration. Device name, IP assignment, GSDML selection, module configuration, update time, and RT/IRT communication mode must match the PLC project. Link and Active LEDs can be normal while the encoder still fails data exchange because the actual device configuration differs from the expected one.

This replacement fails when Ethernet link is present, but the PLC reports no valid position because PROFINET device name, configuration, 16/14-bit resolution mapping, preset value, or counting direction does not match the previous encoder. That is a network-parameter failure, not a sensing failure.

The second boundary is recessed hollow-shaft mounting. This shaft is not a solid shaft and should not be treated as a simple through bore. The application shaft must enter within the correct insertion range, and the torque rest must prevent housing rotation without creating offset load.

The replacement decision should first confirm PROFINET compatibility, GSDML configuration, device name, IP assignment, M12 D-coded port mapping, M12 A-coded supply, 16-bit singleturn and 14-bit multiturn mapping, binary code, preset value, counting direction, Ø12 mm recessed hollow-shaft fit, 15–30 mm insertion depth, torque rest contact, shield grounding, and offset limits.
