A custom compatible replacement for OCD-EIC1B-1216-C100-PRM can be supplied by EncoderWorks with the main check placed on Profinet parameter agreement, 28-bit position mapping, and ø10 mm clamp-shaft alignment. This model should not be treated as the same replacement case as a 13-bit singleturn Profinet encoder. The encoder may appear online, but the PLC can still receive the wrong multiturn position if resolution, preset, counting direction, or GSDML settings are not reproduced.

The OCD-EIC1B-1216-C100-PRM is a POSITAL IXARC multiturn absolute encoder with Profinet RT/IRT interface, optical sensing, binary code, 16-bit singleturn resolution, 12-bit multiturn resolution, mechanical multiturn gearing without battery, steel housing, ø58 mm clamp flange, ø10 mm solid shaft with single flat, radial M12 Ethernet and power connectors, and IP65 shaft / IP66-IP67 housing protection.

The first failure boundary is Profinet parameter transfer. This encoder supports Profidrive and Encoder Profile operation, velocity time base and filter, preset, counting direction, IP address, fractional scaling, and parameter control by GSDML or non-volatile memory. If the original project data is not copied, the device may enter communication while reporting a different absolute position or velocity value.

This replacement fails when the Profinet device is visible, but the axis reports the wrong multiturn position because 16-bit singleturn mapping, 12-bit multiturn range, preset, fractional scaling, counting direction, or IP/device-name strategy does not match the original encoder. That is a parameter and profile failure, not a sensing failure.

The second boundary is MRP/MRPD and M12 mapping. The encoder uses D-coded Ethernet connectors and an A-coded power connector. Tx/Rx pairs, 10–32 VDC supply, GND, shield, device name, and ring topology must be checked before startup. A connector can fit mechanically while the Profinet path or redundancy behavior is still wrong.

Mechanically, the ø10 mm clamp-shaft interface requires coupling alignment and clean flange seating. Axial and radial shaft-load ratings are limits, not installation preload targets. Coupling eccentricity, radial connector cable strain, or flange distortion can create position instability that may be misread as network noise.

The replacement decision should first confirm Profinet profile compatibility, GSDML project data, IP address or device-name strategy, MRP/MRPD topology, M12 Tx/Rx mapping, 10–32 VDC supply, 16-bit singleturn and 12-bit multiturn resolution, preset value, counting direction, velocity settings, ø10 mm shaft fit, clamp-flange centering, coupling load, and shield grounding.
