A custom compatible replacement for ESM58N-F1APNR0BN-1213 can be supplied by EncoderWorks with the main check placed on PROFINET device setup, 13/12-bit position mapping, and Ø10 mm recessed hollow-shaft fit. This model should not be treated like the EtherNet/IP version with the same shaft size. The M12 Ethernet hardware may look similar, but device name, GSDML configuration, RT/IRT timing, and PLC module setup create a different replacement boundary.

The ESM58N-F1APNR0BN-1213 is a PROFINET multiturn absolute encoder configuration with binary code, 13-bit singleturn resolution, 12-bit multiturn range, 10–30 VDC supply, aluminum housing execution, Ø10 mm x 30 mm recessed hollow shaft, radial M12 Ethernet and power connection, and integrated 2-port switch.

The first failure boundary is PROFINET configuration. Device name, IP assignment, GSDML module selection, update time, preset value, counting direction, and RT/IRT communication mode must match the original controller project. Link and Active LEDs can show traffic while the PLC still reports a parameterization fault.

This replacement fails when Ethernet link is present, but the PLC reads no valid position because PROFINET device name, module configuration, 13/12-bit resolution mapping, preset value, or counting direction does not match the previous encoder. That is a network-parameter failure, not a sensing failure.

The second boundary is Ø10 mm recessed hollow-shaft installation. This is not a solid shaft and not a simple through-hollow shaft. The machine shaft must enter within the correct insertion range, and the torque rest must stop housing rotation without creating radial or angular offset.

The replacement decision should first confirm PROFINET compatibility, GSDML configuration, device name, IP assignment, M12 D-coded port mapping, M12 A-coded supply, 13-bit singleturn and 12-bit multiturn mapping, binary code, preset value, counting direction, Ø10 mm recessed hollow-shaft fit, 15–30 mm insertion depth, torque rest contact, shield grounding, and offset limits.
