The 5842-00024 is a multiturn absolute encoder with a PROFIBUS DP interface, identified as CH58M in the original model designation. It features a 12 mm through-hollow shaft. For equipment still using this model, we can manufacture a custom replacement matched to the original shaft diameter, mounting dimensions, and communication requirements for equipment maintenance and spare-part replacement.
This model provides 8192 positions per revolution and a multiturn range of 4096 revolutions, corresponding to 13-bit single-turn resolution and a 12-bit multiturn range. The original encoder supports PNO Profile Class 2 and communication speeds up to 12 Mbaud. PROFIBUS encoders require a GSD file for hardware configuration, and we provide the matching GSD file for our custom encoder. When replacing the encoder, this file should be imported into the PLC project, and the data modules and parameter settings checked to ensure that position data can be read as required by the existing control program.
Mechanical mounting is an important consideration for this encoder. The original unit features a 12 H7 through bore, a front clamping ring, and a spring torque support. It mounts directly onto the equipment shaft and is secured by the clamping ring, while the torque support prevents the encoder housing from rotating with the shaft. The custom design must therefore match not only the bore diameter but also the clamping position, torque support mounting, and available installation space.
The original encoder has radially arranged electrical connections, with separate terminals for PROFIBUS bus input and output. Bus termination must be set correctly during replacement: enable the termination resistor if the encoder is the last station in the PROFIBUS segment, and disable it if other slave devices follow. The original wiring instructions specifically state that enabling termination disconnects the outgoing bus signals to downstream slaves, so this setting directly affects communication across the segment.
The original model has a supply voltage range of 11–27 VDC, an IP54 protection rating, and an operating temperature range of −20 to +70°C. The datasheet identifies the 5842-00024 as discontinued with a replacement available, listing CEH582M-00086 as the successor model. A custom replacement for existing equipment should still be specified according to the installed encoder’s mechanical dimensions, wiring, and PLC configuration to confirm mounting and communication compatibility.
