System Limits

The first system boundary is the 16-bit singleturn scaling and PROFIBUS terminal relationship. PSS58N-F1AAGR0BN-0016 uses binary position data with 65536 angular steps per revolution, so the controller expects the same scaling value, rotation direction, preset behavior, address, device-class configuration, and diagnostic response. If the replacement is configured as a lower-resolution unit, uses the wrong parameter length, has a duplicated address, reversed A/B data lines, incorrect termination, or mismatched preset handling, the result can be wrong angular position, proportional angle error, direction reversal, configuration error, communication loss, or data timeout. Terminal-side Bus In and Bus Out continuity are part of the same boundary because the outgoing PROFIBUS segment can be affected by wiring error or termination switch position.

The second boundary is the Ø10 mm recessed hollow-shaft and removable terminal-cover installation. A smaller bore increases the need to control shaft fit, insertion depth, concentricity, torque-rest position, radial cable exit, shield landing, cable strain relief, and cover sealing together. Excessive shaft offset, rigid torque-rest preload, poor shield termination, terminal strain, or water and dust exposure at the cover can cause bearing stress, unstable bus exchange, signal dropout, ingress failure, or early mechanical damage even when the electronic configuration is correct.

Wiring & Installation

Before replacement, confirm the full installed model code, PROFIBUS address, terminal assignment, Bus In and Bus Out routing, controller device class, 16-bit singleturn scaling, preset use, rotation direction, diagnostic settings, and termination position in the bus segment. The “00” position in this singleturn code should not be treated as a multiturn value; the replacement boundary is the angular resolution and terminal-side bus behavior expected by the controller.

During installation, the Ø10 mm recessed hollow shaft should slide onto the machine shaft without forcing the encoder body into alignment. The torque rest should stop housing rotation while avoiding side load on the bearings. Keep PROFIBUS shield continuity through the terminal compartment, route bus wiring away from motor and brake cables, avoid sharp bending at the radial exit, and close the terminal cover so sealing, grounding, and cable strain relief remain stable during machine motion.
