This model is used as a singleturn absolute rotary encoder in PROFIBUS position systems. System Limits

The first system boundary is the singleturn PROFIBUS scaling relationship. PSS58N-F2AAZR0BN-0016 uses a 16-bit singleturn position structure with binary output data, so the controller expects a defined number of steps per revolution, rotation direction, preset value, address, and device-class behavior. If the replacement is configured with a different singleturn resolution, wrong scaling, duplicated address, mismatched parameter length, incorrect preset handling, or reversed direction, the result can be wrong angular position, direction reversal, configuration error, communication loss, data timeout, or proportional angular error during machine movement. Bus termination and M12 mapping remain part of this boundary because a mechanically correct encoder can still fail if the RS-485 segment is not seen correctly by the master.

The second boundary is the Ø12 mm recessed hollow-shaft and connector installation. This version uses an F2A bore with radial M12 connection, so shaft insertion depth, concentricity, torque-rest position, connector clearance, shield continuity, and sealing exposure must be checked together. Excessive shaft offset, rigid torque-rest preload, connector bending load, poor shield termination, or water and dust exposure at the connector can cause bearing stress, unstable bus exchange, signal dropout, ingress failure, or early mechanical damage.

Wiring & Installation

Before replacement, confirm the full installed model code, PROFIBUS address, M12 connector assignment, controller device class, singleturn scaling, preset use, rotation direction, diagnostic settings, and termination position in the bus segment. The “00” position in this singleturn code should not be treated as a multiturn value; the key position parameter is the 16-bit singleturn resolution expected by the controller.

During installation, the Ø12 mm hollow shaft should fit the machine shaft without forcing the encoder body into alignment. The torque rest should prevent housing rotation while avoiding side load on the bearings. Keep the PROFIBUS shield continuous through the connector system, route bus wiring away from motor and brake cables, avoid sharp bending at the radial exit, and verify that connector sealing, grounding, and cable strain relief remain stable after the machine starts moving.
