EncoderWorks can configure PSM78E-F5AK2R0BN-1213 as a custom compatible replacement solution for explosion-proof PROFIBUS multiturn feedback where node address, bus termination, 25-bit position structure, K2 radial cable wiring, F5A Ø14 mm recessed hollow-shaft fit, and aluminum housing boundary must remain aligned with the installed PLC project. The failure boundary is not only the 10–30 VDC supply, but also GSD compatibility, Class 2 scaling, preset behavior, counting direction, Bus IN / Bus OUT A/B polarity, PE grounding, shield continuity, hollow-shaft clamping, and explosion-proof certificate scope. This model is used where the controller reads absolute multiturn position over a PROFIBUS network from a recessed hollow-shaft encoder mounted directly on the machine shaft. A compatible replacement must preserve the 13-bit singleturn and 12-bit multiturn position structure, binary code behavior, node address setting, termination logic, 7-wire K2 cable execution, Ø14 mm shaft interface, clamping-ring stability, and hazardous-area installation boundary.

System Limits

The first system boundary is the PROFIBUS configuration and 25-bit scaling structure. PSM78E-F5AK2R0BN-1213 must appear to the PLC as the same PROFIBUS encoder device with the correct node address, GSD file behavior, Class 2 parameter structure, scaling function, preset function, counting direction, diagnostic response, and 25-bit position expectation. If the replacement is installed with the wrong address, different overall resolution, incorrect preset behavior, mismatched direction, or incompatible parameter mapping, the bus may still detect a device while the axis reports the wrong position, reversed travel, incorrect multiturn count, or unstable commissioning diagnostics.

The second boundary is the K2 radial cable and F5A hollow-shaft installation. Bus IN and Bus OUT A/B polarity, supply reference, GND, PE, shield path, termination status, radial cable clearance, and cable strain relief must remain consistent with the field wiring. A correct encoder can still fail if the terminal resistor is enabled at the wrong point, the outgoing bus is interrupted, A/B is reversed, the shield is terminated with high impedance, or the 2 m radial cable is forced against the machine frame. Mechanically, the Ø14 mm × 35 mm recessed hollow shaft, clamping ring, axial seating, radial runout, torque reaction, and shaft-load boundary must be checked together.

Wiring & Installation

Before replacement, confirm the full installed model code, PROFIBUS node address, GSD requirement, 13-bit singleturn and 12-bit multiturn structure, Class 2 scaling use, preset requirement, counting direction, diagnostic mapping, K2 cable length, radial exit direction, Bus IN / Bus OUT assignment, terminal-resistor position, and F5A hollow-shaft dimension. This K2 radial version should not be inferred from K5, DR, KR, YY, or solid-shaft PVM variants because the conductor count, cable routing, shield termination, and shaft interface are different.

During installation, verify supply wiring and Bus IN / Bus OUT A/B assignment before powering the system. Keep the 2 m PROFIBUS cable away from motor and drive wiring, maintain low-impedance shield continuity, and avoid cable kinking, tensile load, or shearing load at the radial exit. The hollow shaft must be fully seated before the clamping ring is tightened, and the machine shaft should not force the encoder body off center. Explosion-proof suitability must be confirmed against the installed hazardous-area requirement and certificate scope before shipment.

  • Match PROFIBUS behavior, 13-bit singleturn plus 12-bit multiturn feedback, binary code, node address, and Class 2 parameter expectations
