The PSM78E-F8ADRR0BN-1416 is a multiturn absolute PROFIBUS encoder with binary code output and a resolution structure of 14-bit multiturn plus 16-bit singleturn. This coded version uses the F8A recessed hollow shaft arrangement, DR terminal compartment with radial exit, and aluminum housing construction. It is built for applications where hollow-shaft integration and high-resolution absolute feedback must remain aligned with the original machine configuration.

The platform supports Class 1 and Class 2 operation, with functions such as direction selection, resolution scaling, overall resolution, preset, expanded diagnostics, speed transfer, programmable limit switches, and commissioning mode. This makes it suitable for systems where the encoder is already part of a configured bus architecture rather than a simple standalone position sensor.

Industrial Integration Considerations

For this model, the main mechanical point is the F8A recessed hollow shaft arrangement. In retrofit work, shaft insertion depth, fit condition, clamping ring practice, and encoder-to-shaft mounting geometry should be reviewed carefully. Hollow-shaft compatibility is often the real determinant of whether replacement remains straightforward in the field.

Compared with the stainless version, this aluminum-housing model is more relevant where standard industrial environmental conditions are sufficient and the original installation was built around the lighter anodized housing platform. Material continuity still matters, because housing platform differences can affect long-term site suitability and service expectations.

The 14-bit multiturn plus 16-bit singleturn structure should also remain unchanged where the control system already relies on higher-resolution position data and scaling behavior.

Field Installation and Wiring Notes

For DR terminal-compartment versions, address setting and termination resistor logic should be preserved during recommissioning. Bus IN and Bus OUT wiring should remain aligned with the original PROFIBUS segment topology, and the connection cap orientation should be checked before final assembly.

For hollow-shaft installation, the clamping ring should be tightened only after the shaft is fully and correctly fitted. Impact on the housing or shaft should be avoided, and the original shaft or encoder body should not be modified to force installation.

Serial wiring should remain separated from energy lines, and shielding should follow the installed grounding concept.
