A custom compatible replacement for ASM58N-F3AAAR0GN-1213 can be supplied by EncoderWorks with the main check placed on Gray-code SSI pin mapping, 12/13-bit position scaling, and Ø15 mm recessed hollow-shaft installation. This model should not be treated like the K1 cable version or the Ø12 connector version. The same SSI principle applies, but M23 pin assignment, Gray decoding, and the larger recessed bore create different replacement risks.

The ASM58N-F3AAAR0GN-1213 is an SSI multiturn absolute encoder configuration with Gray code, 12-bit singleturn resolution, 13-bit multiturn range, 4.5–30 VDC supply, aluminum housing execution, Ø15 mm x 30 mm recessed hollow shaft, 12-pin M23 connector, and radial exit. The replacement should preserve 4096 steps per revolution and 8192 turns.

The first failure boundary is SSI connector accuracy. Clock+ / Clock- and Data+ / Data- must remain true RS422 differential pairs. If the M23 pinout is copied incorrectly, reserved pins are used, or the controller expects binary instead of Gray, the SSI frame can be stable while the decoded position is wrong.

This replacement fails when SSI communication is present, but the PLC reads the wrong position because M23 pin assignment, Gray decoding, 12/13-bit word length, monoflop timing, or shield grounding does not match the original encoder. That is a signal-chain and parameter failure, not simply a sensing failure.

The second boundary is input and shaft behavior. V/R changes counting direction, while PRESET 1 can reset the electrical reference. The Ø15 mm recessed hollow shaft must enter within the 15–30 mm insertion range, and the torque rest must stop housing rotation without adding offset load.

The replacement decision should first confirm Gray SSI format, 12-bit singleturn and 13-bit multiturn mapping, radial M23 pin assignment, Clock/Data differential wiring, 20 ±10 µs monoflop behavior, V/R direction input, PRESET 1 zero-set logic, 4.5–30 VDC supply, Ø15 mm recessed shaft fit, insertion depth, torque rest contact, shield grounding, and offset limits.
