The ASM58N-F2AAAR0BN-1212 is an SSI multiturn absolute encoder configuration with binary code, 12-bit singleturn resolution, 12-bit multiturn range, 4.5–30 VDC supply, aluminum housing execution, Ø12 mm x 30 mm recessed hollow shaft, 12-pin M23 connector, and radial exit. The controller should continue reading 4096 steps per revolution across 4096 turns.

The first failure boundary is SSI connector accuracy. Clock+ / Clock- and Data+ / Data- must remain true RS422 differential pairs. If the M23 pinout is copied incorrectly, or if reserved pins are treated as usable signals, the SSI word can become shifted, unstable, or correctly transmitted but wrongly decoded as position.

This replacement fails when SSI communication is present, but the PLC reads the wrong position because M23 pin assignment, binary decoding, 12/12-bit word length, monoflop timing, or shield grounding does not match the original encoder. That is a signal-chain and parameter failure, not simply a sensor failure.

The second boundary is input and shaft behavior. V/R changes counting direction, while PRESET 1 can reset the electrical reference. The Ø12 mm recessed hollow shaft must enter within the 15–30 mm insertion range, and the torque rest must prevent housing rotation without creating radial, axial, or angular preload.
