The main failure boundary is a linear feedback assembly that may still generate position output but produce travel error, cable wear, spring instability, hysteresis shift, or reduced service life if the measuring length, drum ratio, cable path, return-force range, housing protection, or sensor mounting interface is changed. This model belongs to the SL0 draw-wire measurement platform. The SL05 section identifies the 5 m measuring-length version, while GS130 defines the associated sensor mounting class. Unlike a simple encoder replacement, this unit must be checked as a complete mechanical measurement chain: cable movement, drum rotation, spring return, sensor coupling, housing mounting, and signal scaling all affect the final linear-position value.

System Limits

The first limit is 5 m stroke scaling and drum conversion. The 333.3 mm drum circumference, encoder or sensor resolution, controller scaling, zero reference, and full-stroke travel must match the installed system. If a 5 m unit is replaced by a 3 m or 10 m version, or if the controller scaling is recalculated using the wrong drum value, the machine may show proportional travel error even when the electrical signal appears stable.

The second limit is cable mechanics and environmental boundary. The 0.55 mm stainless steel cable, 8 m/s extraction speed, 15–20 N spring return force, IP64 housing, and aluminum drum housing must remain compatible with the machine environment. Cable snap-back, side pull at the outlet, contaminated winding, excessive acceleration, wrong mounting angle, or use beyond the IP boundary can cause cable wear, unstable return, hysteresis change, drum tracking error, or early mechanical failure.

Wiring & Installation

Before replacement, verify the installed measuring length, sensor output type, mounting interface, cable exit direction, drum scaling, and controller distance conversion. The electrical output should not be treated separately from the draw-wire mechanism because the mechanical drum ratio determines how the sensor output represents linear travel.

During installation, mount the housing rigidly and connect the cable eyelet to the moving part without twisting the cable. The cable should be pulled in a straight line from the outlet, kept under controlled tension, and protected from chips, dust, water spray, impact, and side load. After installation, check zero position, full-stroke travel, repeatability, and return behavior before returning the machine to service.
