A custom compatible replacement for ESM58N-F2AIZR0BN-1416 can be supplied by EncoderWorks with the main check placed on EtherNet/IP configuration, 16/14-bit position mapping, and Ø12 mm recessed hollow-shaft fit. This model should not be treated like the 13/12-bit version. The ESM58N-F2AIZR0BN-1416 is an EtherNet/IP multiturn absolute encoder configuration with binary code, 16-bit singleturn resolution, 14-bit multiturn range, 10–30 VDC supply, aluminum housing execution, Ø12 mm x 30 mm recessed hollow shaft, radial M12 Ethernet and power connection, and integrated 2-port switch.

The first failure boundary is EtherNet/IP parameter setup. IP address, subnet, device identity, cyclic data format, CIP encoder profile, and PLC module configuration must be checked together. Link and Active LEDs only prove network connection; they do not prove that the controller accepts the encoder position data.

This replacement fails when Ethernet link is present, but the PLC reads no valid position because EtherNet/IP configuration, 16/14-bit resolution mapping, preset value, or counting direction does not match the previous encoder. That is a network-parameter failure, not a sensing failure.

The second boundary is recessed hollow-shaft installation. This is not a solid shaft and not a normal through-hollow shaft. The machine shaft must enter within the correct insertion range, and the torque rest must stop housing rotation without forcing radial or angular offset into the encoder.

The replacement decision should first confirm EtherNet/IP compatibility, CIP encoder profile, IP address handling, M12 D-coded port assignment, M12 A-coded supply, 16-bit singleturn and 14-bit multiturn mapping, binary code, preset value, counting direction, Ø12 mm recessed hollow-shaft fit, 15–30 mm insertion depth, torque rest contact, shield grounding, and offset limits.
