The first failure boundary is CANopen bus identity. Node address must be unique, baud rate must match the master, CAN H / CAN L must not be reversed, and the 121 Ω termination must be applied only at the correct bus end. A wrong switch setting or termination position can make the encoder visible but prevent stable process data.

This replacement fails when the CANopen node is detected, but the PLC reads no valid or incorrect multiturn value because address, baud rate, termination, CAN H/L wiring, or DS406 profile settings do not match the original encoder. That is a network-configuration failure, not a sensing failure.

The second boundary is 12/12-bit parameter agreement. A 12-bit singleturn and 12-bit multiturn structure is not interchangeable with 12/13, 12/16, or 14/16 mapping unless the PLC project is changed.
