System Limits

The first system boundary is the PROFIBUS Class 2 scaling and parameter relationship. PSM58N-F1AAGR0BN-1416 uses a 14-bit multiturn and 16-bit singleturn code combination, so the controller may depend on a defined total measuring range, steps per revolution, preset value, rotation direction, and diagnostic configuration. If the replacement is configured with the wrong resolution structure, incompatible scaling data, duplicated address, reversed A/B bus wiring, or incorrect parameter length, the result can be configuration error, communication loss, wrong position scaling, direction reversal, data timeout, or a full-stroke proportional travel error.

The second boundary is the 10 mm recessed hollow-shaft and terminal-cover installation. This version combines a smaller bore with a removable terminal compartment, so shaft concentricity, insertion depth, torque-rest position, radial cable exit, shield landing, and cover sealing must be controlled together. Excessive shaft offset, rigid torque-rest preload, poor terminal strain relief, moisture at the cover, or shield discontinuity can create bearing stress, vibration-related instability, bus dropout, water or dust ingress, and early mechanical failure even when the PROFIBUS parameters are correct.

Wiring & Installation

Before replacement, confirm the full installed model code, PROFIBUS address, Bus In and Bus Out routing, terminal assignment, supply voltage, controller device class, scaling parameters, preset use, rotation direction, and diagnostic settings. For this 14/16 code combination, the control-side measuring range and Class 2 parameter set must be checked before shipment because the same 58 mm housing can still fail if the PLC expects a different position structure.

During installation, the 10 mm hollow shaft should slide onto the machine shaft without forcing the encoder body into alignment. The torque rest should prevent housing rotation without acting as a rigid lever that loads the bearings. Keep the PROFIBUS shield continuous through the terminal compartment, separate bus wiring from motor and brake cables, avoid sharp bending at the radial exit, and close the terminal cover so that sealing, grounding, and cable strain relief remain stable during machine operation.
