We developed a custom solution for the OCM-CAA1B-0012-W10W-HFZ encoder, intended for hazardous-area systems where CANopen absolute position feedback must remain stable under vibration, moisture, industrial noise, and Zone 1 / 21 mining installation requirements. This configuration uses a solid Ø10 mm shaft, Ø78 mm ATEX through-hole flange, stainless steel V4A housing, optical sensing, and a CANopen interface with DS-406 profile. It is not a simple pulse encoder. It is a CANopen absolute feedback device where node addressing, baud rate, termination, and shaft-side installation quality determine whether the position data remains usable. Typical production lead time: 15 working days.

Stable operation depends on flange mounting quality, radial blind-plug layout, stainless enclosure integrity, and correct CANopen network configuration.
System Limits
- Wrong node address or baud rate → CANopen communication fails
- Incorrect termination resistor setting → bus instability
- Wrong preset, cam, or limit-switch configuration → position logic becomes invalid
This model uses CANopen DS-406, not SSI, Profibus, PROFINET, or analog output. The system bottleneck is therefore CAN bus configuration rather than encoder resolution. It supports programming for resolution, preset, 2 limit switches, 8 cams, baud rate, CAN identifier, bootloader, and polling / cyclic / synchronous transmission modes. If these settings are mismatched to the PLC or CAN master, the controller may receive unusable data even when the encoder is mechanically normal.
Installation and Wiring Constraints
- Wire Power Supply+, GND, CAN High, CAN Low, and CAN GND correctly
- Set the address selector switch 0–99 before commissioning
- Match the termination resistor DIP switch to the real bus topology
- Keep transmission rate within 20 kBaud to 1 MBaud
- Maintain sealing for CE + ATEX Zone 1 & 21 Mining service
- Do not exceed 50 N axial / 50 N radial shaft load
Failure boundary:
- Address conflict → no stable CANopen communication
- Wrong baud rate → device not recognized
- Poor CAN shielding or grounding → intermittent bus faults
- Excess shaft load → reduced mechanical reliability
Replacement and Interface Mapping
- Suitable for CANopen hazardous-area absolute positioning systems
- Applicable where DS-406 profile, Zone 1 / 21 approval, and stainless housing are required
- Not suitable where SSI, Profibus, PROFINET, analog, or parallel output is expected
