OCE-EIC1B-1213-F120-CRW Profinet Multiturn Absolute Encoder Custom Solution

9 monthsago

We have developed a custom solution for model OCE-EIC1B-1213-F120-CRW, based on a Zone 1 & 21 absolute encoder platform with Profinet communication, an ATEX Ø78 mm clamping flange, and a Ø12 mm solid shaft. This configuration is intended for installations that need multiturn absolute feedback at the industrial Ethernet level while also meeting hazardous-area mechanical and wiring constraints. The platform uses 13-bit singleturn + 12-bit multiturn resolution with optical sensing and mechanical gear-based multiturn detection, making it suitable for networked position feedback in oil, gas, and other classified environments. Typical production lead time: 15 working days.

Technical Key Parameters

  • Interface: Profinet
  • Resolution: 25 bit (13 bit singleturn + 12 bit multiturn)
  • Mounting: Ø78 mm ATEX clamping flange
  • Shaft: Ø12 mm solid shaft
  • Supply voltage: 10–32 VDC

The configuration reflects a hazardous-area encoder structure with ATEX flange design, radial cable layout, and Ethernet-based communication for controller-level integration.

Wiring and Installation Notes

This model uses a Profinet interface with 100 Mbit communication, so long-term stability depends more on network structure and cable discipline than on the encoder body itself. In practice, unstable updates or delayed diagnostics are more often caused by network configuration, switch behavior, or cable-side EMC issues than by sensor faults. The interface supports Profidrive Profile 4.x and Encoder Profile 4.0 / 4.1 / 4.2, with programmable functions including resolution, time base, velocity filter, preset, counting direction, IP address, fractional scaling, and parameter control via GSDML or non-volatile memory. That flexibility is useful in retrofit work, but it also means stable communication can coexist with incorrect scaling or direction behavior if parameter handling is not checked early.

The encoder uses a 1 m radial PVC cable, with Rx+/Rx- and Tx+/Tx- lines defined in the connection plan. The specified bending radius should be respected from the start, because cable stress near the housing is often a more practical long-term problem than Ethernet signaling itself. Mechanically, the Ø12 mm shaft, ATEX Ø78 mm flange, and hazardous-area installation context make mounting discipline more important than on standard indoor Ethernet encoders. This is not a heavy-load shaft platform, so coupling and alignment should absorb installation tolerance rather than transfer axial or radial stress into the bearings. In practical classified-area installations, sealing quality, cable routing, and mechanical fit usually matter just as much as network commissioning.

Application and Integration Notes

This configuration is typically used in hazardous-area automation systems, oil and gas drive assemblies, and networked motion applications where absolute position feedback must be transferred directly over Profinet rather than through SSI, parallel I/O, or fieldbus legacy structures. Its practical value lies in combining multiturn absolute feedback, industrial Ethernet integration, and Zone 1 & 21 approval capability in a single encoder platform.

Compared with SSI or parallel interfaces, this model reduces controller-side signal interpretation work because position, diagnostics, and parameter handling are integrated into the network layer. Compared with standard indoor Ethernet encoders, it is more suitable where classified-area requirements and cable protection constraints are part of the installation from the beginning. In practice, this type of encoder is selected when network integration is necessary, but hazardous-area approval and compact shaft-side installation still have to be maintained at the same time.

Custom Encoder Solution

  • Zone 1 & 21 encoder platform for hazardous-area position feedback
  • 25-bit Profinet multiturn feedback for controller-level network integration
  • Ø12 mm solid shaft with ATEX Ø78 mm clamping flange
  • Suitable for projects requiring Ethernet diagnostics, preset, scaling, and IP-level parameter control

Lead Time and Custom Development

This model is configured based on confirmed Profinet communication requirements, hazardous-area installation constraints, and shaft-side mechanical geometry. Typical production lead time: 15 working days.

Technical Summary

The engineering value of OCE-EIC1B-1213-F120-CRW lies in its combination of Profinet multiturn feedback, a hazardous-area mechanical platform, and a compact Ø12 mm shaft installation structure. It is best suited for classified environments where absolute position, Ethernet-level diagnostics, and controller-side integration must be handled together. In practical applications, this type of encoder is selected when a simpler interface would reduce network flexibility, while a standard Ethernet encoder would not satisfy the environmental and approval requirements.
