We developed a custom solution for the OCM-EIC1B-1416-F10W-HFZ encoder, intended for hazardous-area drive systems where PROFINET absolute position feedback must remain stable under vibration, moisture, and industrial noise while meeting Zone 1 and 21 installation requirements. This configuration uses a solid Ø10 mm shaft, clamp flange Ø78 mm, stainless steel V4A housing, and a PROFINET interface with radial connection layout. It is not a general-purpose encoder. It is a network-integrated absolute feedback solution where Ethernet communication quality, hazardous-area installation discipline, and shaft-side mechanical stability determine whether the system remains usable. Typical production lead time: 15 working days.

Stable operation depends on clamp mounting quality, stainless enclosure integrity, radial connection layout, and correct PROFINET network integration.
System Limits
- Wrong IP address or network topology → device communication becomes unavailable
- Incorrect preset, scaling, or counting-direction settings → position logic becomes invalid at system level
- Mechanical overload beyond shaft limits → lifetime and feedback stability drop
This model is built around PROFINET with Profidrive Profile 4.x and Encoder Profile 4.0 / 4.1 / 4.2, not around local pulse-only logic. The main system bottleneck is therefore network integration rather than raw sensor capability. It provides 16-bit singleturn and 14-bit multiturn absolute feedback with mechanical gearing, no battery, and supports programming functions such as resolution, velocity time base and filter, preset, counting direction, IP address, fractional scaling, and encoder parameter control via GSDML or non-volatile memory. If these parameters are mismatched to the PLC or network structure, usable position data is lost long before the encoder itself is mechanically overstressed.
Installation and Wiring Constraints
- Use the Ethernet lines Tx+/Tx-/Rx+/Rx- exactly as defined
- Set up the IP address and controller mapping correctly before commissioning
- Maintain sealing and installation discipline required for CE + ATEX Zone 1 & 21 (Mining) service
- Keep radial connection routing stable and isolated from avoidable mechanical stress
- Do not exceed 60 N axial or 80 N radial shaft load
Failure boundary:
- IP or network configuration error → no stable PROFINET communication
- Wrong scaling or preset → incorrect absolute position in control system
- Excess shaft load or weak clamp installation → degraded mechanical reliability
- Communication or synchronization fault → unstable realtime position exchange
Replacement and Interface Mapping
- Suitable for PROFINET-based hazardous-area absolute positioning systems
- Applicable where Zone 1 / 21 approval, stainless housing, and absolute multiturn feedback are required
- Not suitable where network setup, hazardous-area installation, or shaft load control cannot be ensured
- Designed for Ethernet field integration, not for simple local pulse-only replacement
