A custom compatible replacement for ASS58N-F3AAAR0GN-0012 can be supplied by EncoderWorks with the main check placed on Gray-code SSI pin mapping, 12-bit singleturn scaling, and Ø15 mm recessed hollow-shaft installation. This model should not be treated like the Ø10 or Ø12 shaft versions. The M23 connector may look familiar, but the larger recessed bore, Gray decoding, and 12-bit SSI word length must all match the original installation.

The ASS58N-F3AAAR0GN-0012 is an SSI singleturn absolute encoder configuration with Gray code, 12-bit singleturn resolution, 4.5–30 VDC supply, aluminum housing execution, Ø15 mm x 30 mm recessed hollow shaft, 12-pin M23 connector, and radial exit. The controller should expect 4096 positions per revolution, not a multiturn frame.

The first failure boundary is SSI connector accuracy. Clock+ / Clock- and Data+ / Data- must remain true RS422 differential pairs. If the M23 pin assignment is copied incorrectly, reserved pins are used, or the controller expects binary code, the SSI signal can be present while the decoded angle is wrong.

This replacement fails when SSI communication is present, but the PLC reads the wrong singleturn position because M23 pin mapping, Gray decoding, 12-bit word length, PRESET 1 input, or V/R direction state does not match the original encoder. That is a signal-chain and parameter failure, not simply a sensing failure.

The second boundary is recessed-shaft installation. The Ø15 mm shaft is not solid and not a simple through bore. The machine shaft must enter within the 15–30 mm insertion range, while the torque rest prevents housing rotation without radial, axial, or angular preload.

The replacement decision should first confirm Gray SSI format, 12-bit singleturn mapping, radial M23 pin assignment, Clock/Data differential wiring, 20 ±10 µs monoflop behavior, V/R direction input, PRESET 1 zero-set logic, 4.5–30 VDC supply, Ø15 mm recessed shaft fit, insertion depth, torque rest contact, shield grounding, and offset limits.
