We developed a custom solution for 8.H120.4K5K.2048, for heavy motor and generator systems where 2048 PPR push-pull feedback must stay stable under conical shaft mounting, torque-arm restraint, terminal-box wiring, and EMC noise.
Model reading:
- 4 = 150 mm torque arm
- K = 17 mm conical blind hollow shaft, 1:10
- 5 = push-pull with inverted signals, 10–30 VDC
- K = rotatable terminal box
- 2048 = 2048 pulses per revolution
Typical production lead time: 15 working days.
At 2048 PPR, the system weak point is split between counter margin and conical shaft fit. The encoder can output up to 300 kHz, but if the taper fit is not locked correctly, the first symptom is usually phase jitter, not a visible mechanical failure.
Where the System Fails First
The 17 mm 1:10 conical blind hollow shaft is the main mechanical risk. A taper mount gives strong centering when installed correctly, but it is unforgiving when the fastening torque or seating depth is wrong. Micro-slip at the taper shows up as unstable A/B phase before the bearing or housing looks damaged.
For standard push-pull output, the cable boundary is 150 m at 80 kHz. With a terminal box, the shield path becomes the field failure point. If the shield is broken inside the terminal box or the grounding path floats between motor frame and cabinet, the PLC may still see pulses, but the edge timing is no longer clean.
Typical failure points:
- Poor taper seating → shaft micro-slip
- Wrong central fastening → phase jitter
- Forced torque arm → housing oscillation
- Shield break in terminal box → unstable A/B/0 edges
- Counter margin too low → missed pulses
- Shaft current without isolation control → feedback damage risk
Mechanical Boundary
H120 is built for large machines: 2.5 kV bearing isolation, HD-Safety-Lock™, dual shaft protection, IP67, seawater-resistant housing, 475 N radial load, 375 N axial load, and -40 °C to +100 °C operation. These margins help only when the taper, torque arm, and grounding path are installed correctly.
Installation Notes
- Keep the model format as 8.H120.4K5K.2048
- Treat the 17 mm 1:10 taper as the first control point
- Use correct central fastening; do not rely on friction alone
- Install the 150 mm torque arm without side-loading the housing
- Keep terminal-box shield continuity intact
- Confirm counter capacity at real RPM and 2048 PPR
- Check shaft-current isolation before replacing the encoder
