SWF20B-FK-01 Wire Draw Encoder Solution

A custom compatible encoder solution can be provided for SWF20B-FK-01 in maintenance, retrofit, replacement, and upgrade projects. This model belongs to a cable-type displacement converter platform with a 20 m measuring range and is intended for use with compatible absolute, incremental, or analogue encoders mounted on a 58 mm synchro flange. Typical production lead time: 15 working days. The engineering objective is to preserve the original displacement-to-rotation conversion logic, cable guidance stability, and encoder mounting continuity so that field installation can remain reliable over a longer measuring stroke.

Technical Overview of the SWF20B-FK-01 Encoder

The SWF20B-FK-01 is a wire draw displacement converter that transforms the linear movement of a measuring cable into rotary motion for a mounted encoder. The cable is wound onto a precision measuring drum and kept under constant tension by a spring drive, while the drum travels axially along the spindle so the cable rewinds wrap for wrap in a helical groove. This design helps maintain repeatable displacement conversion and supports stable encoder input over extended travel distances.

In this coded version, the measuring range is 20 m and the standard bellows-protected cable entry is included. The converter uses an anodized aluminium housing, a plastic spring housing, and a highly flexible stranded stainless-steel cable. For the 20 m version, the cable diameter is 1.3 mm, and the nominal drum circumference is 333 mm. These construction features make the unit suitable for industrial linear measurement tasks where mechanical consistency and sealed cable entry both matter.

Industrial Integration Considerations

For retrofit work on a 20 m version, cable path control becomes more critical because the longer measuring distance increases the importance of straight extraction and stable winding behavior. The datasheet specifies that the cable should be extracted downward or sideways and must be pulled rectilinearly relative to the housing, with no lateral deflection. In field applications, this means mounting position and cable routing should be preserved carefully to avoid uneven drum winding, side load, or accelerated wear.

The 20 m model also differs from the shorter variants in motion and weight characteristics. The datasheet gives a mass of 6.5 kg, a maximum cable speed of 10 m/s, and a maximum cable acceleration of 30 m/s² at 20 °C. These values indicate that this variant is optimized more for longer-stroke measurement continuity than for the highest dynamic response, which should be taken into account during engineering replacement review.

Custom Compatible Encoder Solution

A custom compatible encoder solution for SWF20B-FK-01 should focus on five engineering points: 20 m measuring range continuity, stable spring-loaded cable tension, bellows-protected cable entry, rectilinear cable extraction, and preservation of the original encoder mounting interface. This matters because successful field replacement depends not only on travel length, but also on whether the converter can maintain the same cable handling behavior and encoder-side installation logic as the original unit.

The platform is designed for compatible absolute, incremental, and analogue encoders with 58 mm synchro flanges, and can also be supplied separately from the encoder if required. Where the original installation uses accessories such as a deflection roller, prolongator, external brush case, grease chamber, or protective hard coating, those options should be checked during engineering review so the final solution remains aligned with the environmental and mounting conditions already in service.

Lead Time and Custom Development

Typical production lead time: 15 working days.

For custom development, the main checkpoints should include measuring range, encoder mounting flange compatibility, cable exit direction, straight cable pull condition, dynamic motion requirements, and any accessory-based site adaptations. Since the converter relies on spring-driven cable tension and precision drum guidance, the final configuration should be confirmed against the original installation layout before release.
