Technical Overview of the SWF15B-FK-01 Encoder

The SWF15B-FK-01 is a cable-type displacement converter that transforms the movement of a flexible steel cable into rotary motion at the encoder shaft. The measuring drum is spring-loaded to keep the cable tensioned at all times, while its axial movement on a spindle ensures controlled rewind in the helical drum groove. This design supports stable displacement conversion and repeatable cable layering over longer strokes.

For this coded version, the measuring range is 15 m and the standard bellows arrangement is included. The converter housing is anodized aluminium, the spring housing is plastic, and the cable is made of highly flexible stranded stainless steel with a 1.3 mm diameter in this range class. The nominal drum circumference remains 333 mm.

Industrial Integration Considerations

As the measuring range increases to 15 m, the installation becomes more sensitive to cable path alignment and application-side routing conditions. The datasheet requires the cable to be extracted rectilinearly relative to the housing, with no lateral deflection admitted, and recommends that the cable exit be oriented downward or sideways. For longer-stroke systems, these requirements are especially important because cable guidance errors can accumulate over travel distance and affect winding stability.

This version also differs in motion and mass values compared with the shorter variants. The 15 m model has a mass of 5.5 kg, maximum cable speed of 10 m/s, and maximum cable acceleration of 40 m/s². These values reflect a shift toward longer-travel stability rather than the highest dynamic response, which should be considered during retrofit matching.

Custom Compatible Encoder Solution

A custom compatible encoder solution for SWF15B-FK-01 should preserve the 15 m measuring range, spring-tensioned cable system, encoder mounting face, bellows-protected cable entry, and straight cable extraction requirement. This matters because field installation continuity depends on whether the replacement can maintain the same travel capacity and cable guidance behavior under the original mounting conditions.

The platform is intended for use with compatible absolute, incremental, and analogue encoder series mounted on 58 mm synchro flanges. If the existing installation also uses accessories such as a deflection roller, prolongator, external brush case, grease chamber, or adapter rings for other flange sizes, those items should be reviewed during engineering confirmation before final release.
