PMG10-SHL.13PN.36000.A Profinet Encoder Solution

We developed a custom solution for the PMG10-SHL.13PN.36000.A encoder, intended for applications where absolute position data must be transmitted in real time over PROFINET while maintaining stable operation in oily or wet industrial environments. This configuration is based on the PMG10 solid shaft platform with Ø11 mm shaft, EURO flange B10, protection class L, combined with PROFINET communication (100 MBaud) and 13 bit singleturn / 16 bit multiturn structure. It is not a conventional fieldbus encoder. It is a real-time network feedback device where Ethernet communication stability, IP configuration, and controller synchronization determine whether the position value remains usable. Typical production lead time: 15 working days under confirmed configuration.

Stable operation depends on shaft alignment, connector sealing, Ethernet wiring integrity, and correct network configuration.

System Limits

  • Incorrect IP configuration or network topology → device cannot communicate reliably
  • Network timing mismatch (RT / IRT) → real-time position data becomes unstable
  • Controller-side data handling error → 32-bit position value becomes unusable

This model uses PROFINET real-time communication with automatic address assignment, meaning system limits are defined by network configuration rather than mechanical capability. The encoder provides 32-bit process data output, but correct interpretation depends on controller mapping and synchronization. The PMG10 platform uses MicroGen energy harvesting, eliminating battery-related failure, so reliability shifts to Ethernet communication quality and integration logic.

Installation and Wiring Constraints

  • Supply voltage: 10 to 30 VDC
  • Use M12 A-coded connector for power and M12 D-coded connector for data
  • Maintain proper shielding and separation from high-noise power lines
  • Ensure correct PROFINET network configuration (IP / device name / controller mapping)
  • Use additional outputs (incremental / speed switch) only when integrated into control logic

Integration logic:

  • TxD+ / TxD− / RxD+ / RxD− = Ethernet data transmission
  • 32-bit position data = primary process value
  • Realtime classes (RT / IRT) define system response behavior
  • Diagnostic supports position or parameter error detection

Failure boundary:

  • Network misconfiguration → communication failure
  • Timing mismatch → unstable position update
  • Incorrect controller mapping → invalid position output

System performance depends on network integration, not just encoder hardware.

Replacement and Interface Mapping

  • Suitable for systems requiring PROFINET real-time absolute feedback
  • Applicable where industrial Ethernet integration and environmental resistance are both required
  • Not suitable where network configuration or controller integration cannot be controlled
  • Supports integration of incremental output and speed switch when required
