This configuration is used where a controller requires direct Bit Parallel absolute position data rather than a serial or fieldbus interface. System Limits

The first system limit is bit mapping. The controller must read Bit 1 through Bit 17 in the same order as the original wiring. If one bit is shifted, inverted, or assigned to the wrong input, the machine may still move but report discontinuous or incorrect absolute position.

The second limit is latch and DIR behavior. The latch input must match the controller’s sampling window, and the DIR input must preserve the expected counting direction. If the latch window is too short or the direction logic is reversed, the position value can jump during motion or after power-up.

The mechanical limit is the ø6 mm solid double-flat shaft and synchro flange. Coupling misalignment, axial preload, or radial load can create bearing stress, repeatability loss, or signal instability under vibration.

Wiring & Installation

Before replacement, record the existing M27 26-pin connector wiring for Bit 1–17, Latch, DIR, power supply, and GND. Confirm whether the controller expects Gray code directly, whether any external pull-up or filtering is used, and how the latch input is triggered during the PLC scan or motion cycle.

During installation, align the ø6 mm shaft coupling without axial force and keep the synchro flange square to the mounting surface. Route the parallel signal cable away from inverter and motor power wiring, keep the connector shield continuous, and avoid ground loops between the encoder housing, machine frame, and cabinet earth. After startup, verify zero/reference value, counting direction, bit transition stability, latch response, and repeatability over several machine cycles.
