System Limits

The first system limit is PROFINET commissioning. Device name, IP address, GSDML file, update time, IRT or RT class, position data length, preset value, scaling, and counting direction must match the existing PLC project. If the encoder comes online with a different data layout or resolution setting, the network may appear healthy while the axis receives an incorrect high-resolution position.

The second limit is 30-bit absolute range handling. This model combines 16-bit singleturn and 14-bit multiturn feedback. Compared with 13-bit singleturn versions, the controller input conversion, engineering units, preset storage, modulo behavior, and travel limits must be checked carefully. A wrong scaling factor can create small but continuous position error or a large offset after preset.

The third limit is the aluminum Ex housing with radial DR cable-gland entry. Cable-gland sealing, shield bonding, grounding path, housing-material suitability, coupling alignment, axial preload, and radial load must be controlled. Poor EMC practice or mechanical preload can produce intermittent PROFINET diagnostics and repeatability drift.

Wiring & Installation

Before replacement, record the PLC hardware configuration, GSDML file, device name, IP address, IRT/RT setting, position format, preset value, scaling, counting direction, diagnostics, and terminal-compartment wiring. Confirm the two cable glands, cable diameter, sealing condition, shield termination, grounding path, and whether the aluminum housing is accepted by the site specification.

During installation, align the ø10 mm shaft coupling without axial force and keep the clamping flange square to the mounting surface. Route Ethernet and power wiring away from inverter and motor cables, bond the shield with a low-impedance connection, and close the terminal compartment without damaging the sealing path. After startup, verify online status, 16-bit singleturn response, multiturn counting, direction, preset response, diagnostics, and repeatability over several machine cycles.
