The 14-1436X-5000 is an ATEX incremental rotary encoder configuration with photoelectric sampling, 5000 PPR, 10–30 V RS422 output switching, A/B/0 plus inverted signal channels, IP66 protection, Ø12 mm keyed shaft, clamping flange, and 9-core 2 m cable connection. The output frequency limit is 100 kHz, so high-speed operation must be evaluated carefully.

The first failure boundary is edge frequency. A 5000 PPR encoder can exceed practical counter margin quickly, especially when quadrature evaluation multiplies the effective count rate. If the machine only tests at low speed, A/B signals may look clean while production speed causes missed edges.

This replacement fails when A/B/0 signals are present, but the PLC loses counts because 5000 PPR, shaft speed, cable capacitance, or input filtering exceeds the usable 100 kHz signal margin. That is a signal-chain failure, not necessarily an encoder defect.

The second boundary is RS422 compatibility. The X output code should be treated as 10–30 V RS422, not push-pull. A replacement must confirm differential receiver type, A/A-, B/B-, 0/0- mapping, supply voltage, GND, and PE shielding. A crossed inverted pair can weaken noise immunity or break reference-pulse detection.

Mechanically, the Ø12 mm shaft with keyway and clamping flange must be checked for pulley or measuring-wheel load. ATEX suitability must remain unchanged, and the axial 60 N / radial 80 N shaft-load boundary should not be used as normal installation preload.
