The first failure boundary is terminal-compartment wiring. Power supply, CAN low, CAN high, CAN ground, housing ground, Bus IN, Bus OUT, and shield connection must be verified before startup. If CAN H/L is reversed, the 121 Ω termination is enabled at the wrong bus position, or the cable gland does not preserve shielding and strain relief, the device may power up but fail to exchange stable process data.
