This model should not be treated like the 12-bit or 16-bit versions. The AVS78E-011KRR0GN-0013 is an explosion-proof SSI singleturn absolute encoder configuration with Gray code, 13-bit singleturn resolution, 10–30 VDC supply, aluminum housing execution, Ø10 mm x 20 mm solid shaft, clamping flange, KR terminal compartment, and radial exit. It should be handled as singleturn angle feedback, not as multiturn position feedback.

The first failure boundary is SSI terminal assignment. Clock+ / Clock- and Data+ / Data- must remain true RS422 differential pairs. If terminal mapping, Gray decoding, shield grounding, preset wiring, or counting-direction input is changed, the SSI signal can be present while the PLC calculates the wrong shaft angle.

This replacement fails when SSI communication is present, but the PLC reads the wrong singleturn position because terminal mapping, Gray-code decoding, 13-bit word length, monoflop timing, preset input, or counting direction does not match the original encoder. That is a signal-chain and parameter failure, not simply a sensing failure.

The second boundary is flameproof solid-shaft installation. The Ø10 mm shaft, clamping-flange centering, coupling fit, radial terminal exit, grounding, and axial/radial shaft load must be checked together. Terminal access and cable entry must preserve the hazardous-area sealing requirement.
