A custom compatible replacement for GXM7W.010A101 can be supplied by EncoderWorks with the main check placed on RS485 radial M23 mapping, address-coded bus identity, and Ø10 mm IP54 clamping-flange alignment. This model should not be treated as the IP65 clamping-flange version. The RS485 protocol may remain the same, but sealing class, starting torque, connector strain, and coupling-load tolerance are not identical.

The GXM7W.010A101 is an RS485 multiturn absolute encoder with optical sensing, 13-bit singleturn and 12-bit multiturn position data, binary code, 10–30 VDC supply, Ø10 mm clamping flange, IP54 execution, and A1 radial M23 connector. Communication should remain 38.4 kBaud master/slave, with 8192 steps per turn and 4096 turns.

The first failure boundary is RS485 bus mapping. T/R+ IN, T/R- IN, T/R+ OUT, and T/R- OUT must be reproduced by connector pin function. If the radial M23 pin assignment is wrong, IN and OUT pairs are crossed, Ident 1/2 address coding is changed, or the final-node 150 Ω termination is missing, the encoder may power up but fail to return a valid position reply.

This replacement fails when supply voltage is present, but the controller receives no valid position because M23 mapping, RS485 IN/OUT wiring, address coding, or termination does not match the original installation. That is a bus-chain failure, not an optical sensing failure.

Zero setting and UP/DOWN direction must also match the original wiring. A wrong zero input shifts the electrical reference, while a wrong UP/DOWN state reverses reported position direction. Mechanically, the Ø10 mm IP54 clamping flange must be centered before the coupling is tightened. IP54 protection should not be confused with IP65 sealing, and it does not correct radial load, axial preload, or connector side pull.

The replacement decision should first confirm Ø10 mm clamping-flange geometry, IP54 requirement, radial M23 pin assignment, RS485 38.4 kBaud setting, T/R IN and OUT wiring, 150 Ω termination, Ident 1/2 address coding, 13-bit singleturn and 12-bit multiturn mapping, zero-setting input, UP/DOWN direction, supply voltage, shielding, connector clearance, and coupling load.
