The first failure boundary is SSI cable accuracy. Clock+ / Clock- and Data+ / Data- must remain true RS422 differential pairs. If conductor assignment, Gray decoding, shield continuity, preset input, or counting-direction input is changed, the SSI signal can be present while the PLC calculates the wrong absolute position.
