A custom compatible replacement for GXP2W.B4021A2 can be supplied by EncoderWorks with the main check placed on SSI cable-pair integrity, Ø6 mm IP65 synchro-flange alignment, and programmed 13/12-bit position behavior. This model should not be treated as the same case as the M23 connector version. The cable output changes the risk from plug pin matching to conductor tracing, shield handling, and correct differential-pair routing.

The GXP2W.B4021A2 is an SSI multiturn absolute encoder with optical sensing, 13-bit singleturn resolution, 12-bit multiturn range, 8192 steps per turn, 4096 turns, 10–30 VDC supply, SSI RS485 data output, RS232 programming interface, Ø58 mm housing, Ø6 mm synchro flange, IP65 shaft-seal execution, and 1 m radial cable connection.

The first failure boundary is SSI cable pairing. Clock+/Clock- and Data+/Data- must stay as differential pairs through any extension cable, terminal strip, or cabinet entry. If the cable is extended without preserving twisted-pair structure and shielding, the controller may receive intermittent data, shifted words, or speed-dependent position errors.

This replacement fails when SSI communication is present, but the PLC reads unstable multiturn values because cable pair assignment, shield continuity, or SSI clock frequency does not match the original installation. The encoder can be healthy while the signal chain is no longer reliable.

The second boundary is programmed position logic. Total resolution, Gray or binary code, rotating direction, preset, offset, and zero point must match the previous encoder. A clean SSI word can still be wrong if the replacement uses a different code format or UP/DOWN direction state.

Mechanically, the B shaft option means Ø6 mm synchro flange with IP65 protection. This smaller shaft must not be used to correct coupling offset. Flange centering, coupling concentricity, and cable strain must be controlled before startup. Shaft-load limits are safety boundaries, not preload targets.

The replacement decision should first confirm Ø6 mm synchro-flange geometry, IP65 shaft-seal requirement, 1 m radial cable assignment, SSI Clock+/Clock- and Data+/Data- pairing, 13-bit singleturn and 12-bit multiturn mapping, Gray/binary setting, UP/DOWN direction, preset behavior, RS232 programmed parameters, supply voltage, shielding, and coupling load.
