We developed a custom solution for 8.H120.5311.2048, for heavy motor and generator systems where 2048 PPR RS422 feedback must stay stable under hollow-shaft mounting, stator coupling movement, long signal routing, and EMC noise.
Model reading:
- 5 = double wing spring plate, Ø119 mm
- 3 = 20 mm through hollow shaft
- 1 = RS422 with inverted signals, 10–30 VDC
- 1 = radial PVC cable, 1 m
- 2048 = 2048 pulses per revolution
Typical production lead time: 15 working days.
At 2048 PPR, the first weak point is usually signal integrity and shaft concentricity, not the optical sensor. RS422 is strong for differential transmission, but it still fails when shielding, grounding, or cable routing is weak.
Where the System Fails First
The 20 mm through hollow shaft must stay concentric. If the shaft fit is loose, the first symptom is normally A/B phase jitter. The double wing spring plate gives controlled stator restraint, but it should not be forced into position. If it is preloaded or twisted during installation, housing stress can become signal instability.
For RS422, the H120 platform allows 550 m cable length at 100 kHz. This is useful for large machines, but it is not a substitute for correct shielding and grounding. Once the shield path is broken, the differential pair may still switch, but the counter no longer receives clean timing.
Typical failure points:
- Loose 20 mm hollow-shaft fit → phase jitter
- Preloaded spring plate → housing stress
- Shield break → unstable A/B/0 edges
- Poor grounding → reference signal noise
- Counter margin too low → missed pulses
- Shaft current without isolation control → feedback damage risk
Mechanical Boundary
H120 is made for heavy machines: 2.5 kV bearing isolation, HD-Safety-Lock™, double shaft protection, IP67, seawater-resistant housing, 475 N radial load, 375 N axial load, and -40 °C to +100 °C operation. These margins only work when shaft fit, stator restraint, and shielding are controlled.
Installation Notes
- Keep the model format as 8.H120.5311.2048
- Check the 20 mm through hollow shaft fit before checking electronics
- Install the Ø119 mm spring plate without preload or side force
- Maintain shield continuity from encoder to cabinet
- Separate RS422 pairs from inverter and motor power cables
- Confirm counter capacity at real RPM and 2048 PPR
- Check shaft-current isolation before replacing the encoder
