The UCD-DPC1B-0016-L12S-H3P is a POSITAL IXARC singleturn absolute encoder with Profibus DP interface, DPV0 / DPV1 / DPV2 Class 2 support, magnetic sensing, 16-bit singleturn resolution, binary code, steel housing, ø58 mm clamp flange, ø12 mm solid shaft with single flat, radial connection cap, and IP66/IP67 protection.

The first failure boundary is Profibus node setup. This encoder uses address selector switches from 0 to 99 and a terminal-resistor switch inside the removable connection cap. If the node number, outgoing bus path, or termination state is not reproduced, the master may not reach stable communication even though supply voltage and the encoder hardware are correct.

This replacement fails when the Profibus node is visible or powered, but the PLC reads no valid position because the address switch, terminal resistor, Bus In/Bus Out wiring, or DP profile configuration does not match the original encoder. That is a bus-setup failure, not a sensing failure.

The second boundary is parameter agreement. Resolution, gearing factor, velocity scaling and filter, preset, counting direction, limit switches, node number, teach-in, and diagnosis can all affect the value seen by the controller. A replacement can communicate correctly and still report the wrong shaft position if these settings are not copied.

Mechanically, the ø12 mm solid shaft and clamp flange require clean coupling alignment. The listed axial and radial shaft-load limits should be treated as boundaries, not normal installation preload. Radial cable-gland routing, shield grounding, and flange seating must also be controlled so mechanical or EMC stress is not mistaken for Profibus instability.
