The PVM58N-032AGR0BN-1416 is a multiturn absolute rotary encoder with PROFIBUS interface, binary output code, aluminum powder-coated housing, AG removable terminal-compartment cover, and 032 shaft version, defined as Ø6 mm x 10 mm with servo flange. The PVM58 platform supports PROFIBUS profile 3.062, Class 1 and Class 2 operation, programmable counting direction, scaling, preset, speed transfer, programmable limit switches, commissioning mode, and up to 30-bit overall resolution.

The first failure boundary is the 1416 resolution configuration. A higher-resolution setup makes scaling and preset handling more critical than on 1213 versions. The controller may accept the encoder on the bus, but if resolution per revolution, overall resolution, preset value, or counting direction differs, the machine position will be wrong even though Data Exchange is active.

This replacement fails when the PROFIBUS master shows normal communication, but the axis travels to the wrong point because the 1416 resolution mapping or Class 2 scaling does not match the previous encoder. That is a parameter mismatch, not a failed sensor.

The second boundary is the Ø6 mm servo-flange shaft. This small solid shaft needs accurate coupling alignment and clean flange centering. If the coupling is used to absorb radial or angular error, the encoder bearings can receive load that later appears as position noise, vibration-sensitive feedback, or shortened service life. PVM58 data gives axial and radial shaft-load limits, but these should be treated as protection limits, not normal installation load.

The AG terminal cover also requires disciplined PROFIBUS wiring. Bus In A/B, Bus Out A/B, 10–30 VDC, 0 V, ground, address switches, and termination switch must be checked before commissioning. The participant address is set from 1 to 99 and must be unique; the 220 Ω termination resistor should be on only at the last participant.

The replacement decision should first confirm 032 Ø6 mm servo-flange fit, coupling alignment, flange centering, PROFIBUS address, Bus In/Bus Out polarity, termination state, GSD/profile compatibility, 1416 resolution mapping, Class 2 scaling, preset value, counting direction, and LED diagnostic state.
