EncoderWorks can configure OCD-PPA1G-0008-C12S-CAW as a custom compatible replacement solution for absolute singleturn feedback where 8-bit Bit Parallel data, Gray-code interpretation, latch timing, DIR logic, and 1 m axial cable wire mapping must remain aligned with the installed controller. This model is used where the control system reads an absolute singleturn position word through discrete parallel data lines. A compatible replacement must preserve the 8-bit singleturn data structure, push-pull output behavior, Gray-code data interpretation, latch input function, counting direction input, axial cable route, and Ø12 mm solid-shaft mechanical interface.

System Limits

The first system boundary is the 8-bit Gray-code parallel data structure. OCD-PPA1G-0008-C12S-CAW uses Bit 1 to Bit 8 as discrete position data lines, so the controller must read the same bit order, significance, voltage level, latch behavior, and direction state. If the replacement is treated as a multiturn encoder, configured with Binary code, wired with shifted bit significance, or supplied without the same latch and DIR behavior, the controller can receive stable electrical signals but calculate the wrong angular value. Typical failure symptoms include position jumps, reversed travel, unstable end-position detection, incorrect singleturn value, or repeatable offset after power cycling.

The second boundary is the 1 m axial cable and Ø12 mm solid-shaft installation. The cable version depends on correct wire-color mapping, shield continuity, supply reference, GND integrity, latch state, and DIR state. A replacement can fail even when voltage and resolution match if one data wire is swapped, the latch line is left floating, the DIR line is wired with the wrong state, or the axial cable is forced into a tight rear bend. Mechanically, shaft runout, coupling preload, axial clearance, radial load, and flange seating must stay within the installed system’s tolerance.

Wiring & Installation

Before replacement, confirm the full installed model code, 10–30 V supply, push-pull parallel input compatibility, 8-bit data mapping, Gray-code handling, latch input use, DIR input logic, axial cable route, wire-color assignment, and controller sampling method. Do not treat this as a Profibus, Profinet, EtherNet/IP, CANopen, Analog Voltage, or incremental replacement, because the controller is reading a complete absolute singleturn word rather than a configured bus device, network object, voltage value, or A/B/Z pulse train.

The solid-shaft installation must also be checked carefully. The Ø12 mm shaft, 20 mm shaft length, clamp flange, coupling type, shaft insertion depth, rear cable outlet, axial load, radial load, and alignment accuracy can affect long-term stability. Poor coupling alignment, excessive side load, cable pulling force, or shield discontinuity can cause mechanical drift, intermittent data faults, or early bearing wear.

  • Preserve Bit 1–8 mapping, latch function, DIR logic, supply reference, and cable wire-color assignment

  • Review controller sampling timing, cable shielding, grounding, rear cable clearance, and shaft coupling alignment before shipment
