The first failure boundary is Profinet parameter agreement. This encoder supports programming functions such as resolution, velocity time base and filter, preset, counting direction, IP address, fractional scaling, and parameter control through GSDML or non-volatile memory. If these settings are not copied, communication may be alive while the machine receives the wrong position, velocity, or direction value.

This replacement fails when the device is visible on Profinet, but the axis reports the wrong position because preset, fractional scaling, IP address, counting direction, or profile configuration does not match the original encoder. That is a network-parameter failure, not a sensing failure.

The second boundary is MRP/MRPD and connector mapping. The encoder uses D-coded M12 Ethernet connectors and an A-coded power connector. Tx/Rx pairs, power supply, GND, shield, and ring topology must be checked before startup. A connector can fit mechanically while the Profinet ring, redundancy path, or device name assignment is still wrong.

The blind hollow shaft must sit cleanly before the clamping ring is tightened.
