In a machine using OCD-DPC1B-1212-B12S-H72, EncoderWorks can build a custom compatible replacement solution around the Profibus-DP project settings, 12-bit/12-bit absolute scaling, node address, bus termination, ø12 mm blind-hollow shaft fit, and M12 connection-cap wiring. The main failure risk is not only loss of communication; it is a device that goes online but reports the wrong mechanical position because the profile, scaling, preset, or direction setting has changed. Typical production lead time: 15 working days.
This configuration is used where a controller reads binary absolute multiturn position data through Profibus DP. The encoder combines 12-bit singleturn resolution, 12-bit multiturn mechanical gearing, optical sensing, galvanically isolated Profibus data output, a ø58 mm blind-hollow flange, ø12 mm blind-hollow shaft, and radial 3×M12 connection cap. Replacement work should focus on GSD compatibility, node number, encoder profile, scaling, preset, counting direction, bus A/B polarity, terminal resistor status, shield continuity, and blind-hollow clamp preload.

System Limits
The first system limit is Profibus commissioning. The PLC must keep the expected GSD file, node address, encoder profile, resolution, gearing factor, preset value, counting direction, velocity scaling, filter settings, limit-switch parameters, and diagnostic response. If the configuration differs, the network may appear healthy while the axis receives the wrong position value.
The second limit is connection-cap wiring and termination. This model uses separate M12 connectors for power, bus out, and bus in. Bus line A/B polarity, incoming and outgoing bus direction, shield bonding, and terminal-resistor switch status must be checked. A missing termination, duplicate node address, or shield break can create intermittent Profibus faults under vibration or inverter noise.
The mechanical limit is the ø12 mm blind-hollow shaft. Shaft insertion depth, clamp force, static misalignment, dynamic misalignment, and cable clearance around the radial connection cap must be controlled. A forced bore fit or housing movement can create repeatability drift even when Profibus diagnostics remain normal.
Wiring & Installation
Before replacement, record the Profibus node number, GSD file, profile setting, scaling data, preset value, counting direction, velocity parameters, diagnostic behavior, and terminal-resistor status from the existing PLC project. Also record the M12 connector assignment for power, bus out, and bus in.
During installation, confirm the ø12 mm blind-hollow fit without forcing the shaft. Keep the encoder body square to the mounting face, avoid axial preload, route Profibus cables away from inverter output wiring, maintain shield continuity through the M12 connectors, and avoid ground loops between the encoder housing, machine frame, and cabinet earth. After startup, verify online device status, actual position, direction, preset response, diagnostics, bus stability, and repeatability over several machine cycles.
Custom Compatible Solution
EncoderWorks can configure the replacement around the installed Profibus and mechanical system:
- Match Profibus-DP communication, GSD configuration, node address, profile behavior, scaling, preset, direction, and diagnostics
- Preserve 12-bit singleturn plus 12-bit multiturn binary absolute position behavior
- Adapt the ø58 mm blind-hollow flange, ø12 mm blind-hollow shaft, clamp interface, and radial 3×M12 connection cap
- Review bus A/B polarity, terminal-resistor status, shield grounding, EMC routing, shaft fit, and mechanical preload
