This model belongs to the HSD35 heavy-duty optical incremental encoder series. In the HSD352048HD9 configuration, the encoder provides 2048 pulses per revolution, a 1" electrically isolated hollow bore, an AC motor fan-cover tether with T-bolt and cover kit, and differential ABZ output using the 4469 driver format. Replacement work should focus on A/A-, B/B-, Z/Z- wiring, controller receiver compatibility, Z index recognition, hollow-shaft clamping, cover clearance, tether preload, and 10-pin connector assignment.

System Limits

The main electrical limit is 4469 differential ABZ compatibility. The controller input must accept 5–15 V differential A/A-, B/B-, and Z/Z- signals. If the receiver expects 5–26 V output, open collector, or single-ended ABZ, the encoder may produce signals but still cause unstable counts, missed index pulses, or input threshold faults.

The second limit is counter frequency margin. At 2048 PPR, the real input frequency depends on shaft speed and x1, x2, or x4 quadrature decoding. The counter should be checked against the 200 kHz data and index frequency limit, A/B phase tolerance, and Z pulse recognition at operating speed.

The mechanical limit is the 1" hollow-shaft clamp and covered fan-cover tether. The bore must match the shaft without forcing the clamp, while the tether and cover must not add side load, cable strain, or clearance interference. Excess preload can create vibration, bearing stress, or intermittent signal faults.

Wiring & Installation

Before removing the existing encoder, record the 10-pin connector wiring for Common, Signal A, Signal B, Signal Z, Vcc, Signal A_, Signal B_, and Signal Z_. Confirm that the controller expects 4469 differential ABZ feedback rather than open collector, 7272 differential output, or dual isolated output.

After installation, rotate the shaft slowly and confirm that A leads B for clockwise shaft rotation when viewed from the clamp end. Then check Z index position, pulse count, direction trend, cover clearance, tether movement, and counter stability at the required operating speed.
