This replacement fails when the 20 mm shaft sleeve is treated as a loose adapter instead of the main mechanical reference. A small eccentric error at the sleeve can turn into housing movement, torque-arm stress, or intermittent feedback under machine vibration.

The first checks are direct. Restore the Profibus station address. Confirm A/B bus polarity. Enable terminal resistance only if this encoder is the last station. Keep the shield path bonded.
